Worldwide Tax That Actually Collects, On Your Own Stripe

TL;DR

GoCushy now activates Stripe Tax and registers your tax numbers for you, over the API, on your own Stripe Express account, so buyers are charged the correct local rate. You still file and remit.

The gap we had to close

GoCushy merchants run on Stripe Express accounts. That's deliberate: it's the fastest way to get you taking money on your own Stripe without a heavy onboarding. But Express accounts have a catch that quietly blocked a lot of people. They have no Stripe Tax dashboard. So the one screen where you'd normally switch on Stripe Tax and add your registrations simply doesn't exist for you.

Which meant that until now, "collect the right tax worldwide" was a nice idea you couldn't actually turn on. You could read about Stripe Tax. You just couldn't reach it.

Now your AI turns it on for you

We've wired the whole thing to the Stripe API so it doesn't need that dashboard. You tell your AI your head-office address and the tax registrations you actually hold, and GoCushy activates Stripe Tax and adds those registrations for you, on your own account. Three new tools do the work: activate_tax, add_tax_registration, and tax_status to check where things stand.

So the conversation is roughly: "We're based in Auckland. Register us for NZ GST, EU OSS through Ireland, and California and Texas." Your AI calls the tools, and from that point buyers are charged the correct local rate at checkout, NZ GST at 15%, German VAT at 19%, French VAT at 20%, and so on, computed by Stripe against the registrations you hold.

What GoCushy does, and what stays yours

To be clear about the split, because tax is one place you don't want vague marketing. GoCushy calculates the tax, collects it at checkout, and reports it back to you. What it does not do is file and remit on your behalf. That part is still yours: your quarterly EU OSS return, your state filings, whatever your registrations commit you to. We give you clean numbers to file from, not a promise we've paid your taxes.

The paperwork side is already handled. Compliant sequential invoices are generated for every sale, and they auto-file to your accounting, Xero and now QuickBooks too. So the record that has to stand up to an audit is created and filed without you touching it.

One guardrail we won't move

A tax registration is a legal declaration. So add_tax_registration only adds registrations you genuinely hold. Your AI won't invent a German VAT number because it seems convenient, and it won't register you somewhere you're not actually registered. If you don't hold it, it doesn't go on. That's not a limitation we're apologising for; it's the honest version of the feature.

Where it lives

This is part of the optional Worldwide Tax & Affiliates Pack. If you sell across borders, it's the difference between "I'll sort tax out later" and having it collected correctly from your first international sale, on the account that already holds your money. You can see the shape of it on the use cases page, and the tools sit alongside the rest of what your AI can call in the skills docs.

Not every update is a headline. This one is, quietly, because it removes a wall that Express accounts put in your way. The point of GoCushy hasn't changed: your AI runs the sale, and the money, and now the tax, settles on your own Stripe. You just had one fewer thing you couldn't do.
